In the Faim Zéro module, students explore the causes of hunger, global food systems, inequalities in access to food, food waste, and sustainable solutions for building a more equitable food system. Through videos, infographics, case studies, awareness campaigns, and critical discussions, students develop an understanding of the connections between food, environment, social justice, and sustainable development.
The big ideas that will provide the practical lenses for students' inquiry are:
Food systems
Hunger
Consumption
Inequality
Environmental responsibility
Community
The essential questions that students will explore in this module are:
Why does hunger still exist today?
How does our global food system function?
Why do some populations have less access to healthy food?
Why do we waste so much food?
How can we build a more sustainable and equitable food system?
Students should be able to develop the following enduring understandings:
Food systems are interconnected with environmental, economic, and social systems.
Hunger and food insecurity are often the result of structural inequalities.
Consumption habits have consequences for people and the planet.
Sustainable food systems require both individual and collective action.
